Philip J. "Woodchuck" Welmas was the name of a Native American professional football player in the early National Football League. He was a member of the Cupeño people.〔("Mission Indians at the Carlisle Indian School (1879-1918)." ) ''Carlisle Indian Industrial School.'' Accessed March 25, 2011.〕 Welmas played in four games with the Oorang Indians for the 1923 season. He ended his professional career after the Indians disbanded in 1923.
